Congratulations to the new Accelerating Care Transformation (ACT) Center – part of Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute. The center, which officially launched on November 3, 2021, combines two entities - The MacColl Center for Health Care Innovation and KP Washington’s Learning Health System (LHS) program - to improve health for people and communities by streamlining the path from research to practice. The MacColl center was founded by Dr. Ed Wagner (a longtime friend of The Dartmouth Institute Microsystem Academy) 25 years ago and developed the Chronic Care Model to strengthen the partnership between patients and teams. The LHS program was founded to use research in order to help health system leaders overcome challenges.

Co-directors of the ACT Center are Katie Coleman, MSPH, Director of The MacColl Center (graduate of IEHSS Team Coaching Program); Paula Lozano, MD, MPH, KP Washington’s Medical Director for Research and Translation and Emily Westbrook, MHA, KP Washington Health Research Institute’s Director of Research Operations and Programs. The center’s focus areas are persistent pain and opioids, social health and patient and family engagement. Congratulations to the ACT CENTER and all who are a part of this exciting new venture!
