The Institute for Excellence in Health and Social Systems would like to extend best wishes to Dean Michael S. Ferrara, Ph.D. on this retirement.

Dean Ferrara has been an esteemed member of the University of New Hampshire for the last 9 years serving as the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, and the Kent P. Falb Professor of Kinesiology. It was through Dean Ferrara’s vision, support and encouragement that IEHSS was recruited to CHHS at UNH.

“Dean Ferrara believes deeply in IEHSS’s vision to help people live a good life in a good place. He supports our interprofessional hybrid model of bringing research and practice together to develop the workforce of the future. He provided a warm welcome and guided our arrival at UNH during an unprecedented pandemic. The Dean had assumed a leadership role during the pandemic at UNH and still ensured our successful transition. Our team will be forever grateful for his wisdom and support.” – Marjorie M. Godfrey, Executive Director, IEHSS and Research Professor, Department of Nursing

Prior to UNH, Dean Ferrara served as the Associate Dean of Research at the University of Georgia. He is active in research and has published extensively in leading journals regarding sport-related concussions and exertional heat illness. Dean Ferrara has received grants to support his research, the most recent to study environmental factors and the risk of exertional heat illness in interscholastic football players. He has given numerous lectures around the world. He served as the founding President of the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Research and Education Foundation Research Committee.

Dr. Ferrara’s hard work, commitment, and dedication to students, faculty and staff at CHHS won’t be forgotten. Congratulations to Dean Ferrara on his retirement!  Wishing you the best as you seek new heights of success in your hiking pursuits!
